On Saturday, June 17, 2017, GPHO recognized local citizens and groups at the GPHO awards ceremony. The presentations were held at the Historical Organization Building/Museum. The Dechman and Goodwin awards had previously been awarded through the GP Historical Commission. The Historical Organization board will continue these awards each year.

GPHO President Stephanie Moreno presenting the Dechman Award to RHO Kappa Honor Society, the Herb Summers Chapter of South Grand Prairie High School, Sarah Terrace, sponsor. Accepting the Award is AnnMarie Tipps, co sponsor.

Ms. Terrace, along with Ms. Tipps and others, have encouraged the Honor students who are juniors and seniors, a love and appreciation of history, especially for the city of Grand Prairie. They have been involved in several projects of historical interest over the past three years.

2017 Goodwin Award

GPHO President Stephanie Moreno presenting the Goodwin Award to Regina Shumaker member of the board of the Grand Prairie Genealogical Society. Regina, and her husband Lynn, with a dozen GP Genealogical Society members, have been listing and digitizing all of the graves in every Grand Prairie Cemetery. This began in the spring of 2008 and will be finishing the final cemetery by 2018. Every person buried in the cemeteries is listed, along with a photograph of the headstone or marker, on the Genealogical Society website gpgstx.org.
